Victorian 9ct gold 'D.E.A.R.E.S.T' acrostic horseshoe pendant
Acrostic jewellery was one of the most intimate and clever inventions of the Victorian era. Gemstones chosen not for their appearance but for their initial letters, spelling secret messages only the giver and recipient would know. In this case the first letter of each gemstone spells out the word DEAREST (diamond, emerald, amethyst, ruby, emerald, tourmaline).
The horseshoe was the ultimate Victorian good luck symbol. Combined with DEAREST, this piece delivers a double message...my love and my luck, both yours.
Lovingly converted and refurbished from an old brooch, this extra large horseshoe makes a beautiful statement with wonderful Victorian sentiment. Made from 9ct gold (XRF tested) with gemstones and in lovely condition.
