Spanish 18th Century high carat & diamond pendant
A rare and exceptional example of Spanish goldsmithing, likely from the Rococo era of the 18th Century. Crafted in high carat gold (XRF tested as 20ct) with foil backed rose cut diamonds in closed settings. The foil now a dark gunmetal colour, makes the diamonds really stand out against the rich, buttery gold.
A modern 18ct gold bale has been fitted to the pendant, which almost certainly would have been worn on a lazo bow or possibly ribbon. It's articulated in three places which means it has a gentle movement to it rather than being rigid, and sits beautifully however you wear it. Some minor solder marks are evident on the tip, but given this piece is likely over 250 years old, it's really in beautiful condition.
