Large Victorian 9ct gold, ruby & old cut diamond pendant
Horseshoes were deeply embedded in Victorian luck symbolism and also carried racing and hunting associations, with the upper and middle classes being somewhat obsessed with horses, hunting and racing. You most commonly see plain horseshoes in Victorian jewellery so the addition of the riding crop in this case offers a layered luck symbol. The horseshoe brought general good fortune and the crop could well reinforce themes of control, skill and mastery.
This gorgeous pendant has been cleverly converted from a brooch. Made from 9ct yellow gold (XRF tested) with 4 rubies and 4 old cut diamonds. A generous sized bail has been added so it will fit most chains, clasps & clips. To top it off, it's in fantastic condition!
