Antique 15ct gold, diamond, ruby & opal bee brooch
The Victorians obsession with natural history significantly influenced their arts and insects featured everywhere in jewellery. Bees and wasps were sometimes considered a symbol of good luck, industriousness, or even as a reminder of how transient life could be.
This gorgeous piece is made from 15ct gold with silver set stones, on a 9ct gold pin. The total stone count includes 30 old rose cut diamonds, 5 rubies and 2 opal eyes.
Perfect worn as a brooch but thanks to the generous sized pin, we think it makes an amazing extender or connector (see pics - chain not included).
Such a fun piece with loads of beautiful details, in wonderful antique condition. Oh… and he comes with his own, original, antique box!
